Journey's fan club, "The Journey Force", has it's roots in Santana

Even Journey's fan club, known as "The Journey Force" has it's roots in Santana.

Here's a great mailing label sticker from the early SANTANA fan club;

Soon after the formation of Journey came NIGHTMARE Inc.
Nightmare Inc's logo is the one used for the "Next" album;

Photo of Journey in a pile of fan mail from 1981

Journey always received fan mail, but after the release of the "Escape" album in 1981, the amount of mail skyrocketed.

By 1982 Journey, especially Steve Perry, was receiving more fan mail than they could possibly read.

Here's a photo taken in 1981 of the band in a pile of their own fan mail.

Here are five different Journey Stickers given out at concerts by three local radio stations.

I'm not sure which tour this WMET 95.5 sticker was given out in Chicago...

And here we have my local station in Los Angeles, California, KLOS 95.5...

Steve Perry had his first solo album releasing in March.

Neal Schon and Sammy Hagar had an album called "Through The Fire" on the horizon.

Journey's Steady Road to Success

To kick off the 1980 "Departure Tour", Journey played March 26, 1980 at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater in San Francisco, California.

I've got a review of that show from a newspaper clipping from late March 1980.

Most reviews during the 1970's and 80's of Journey were very critical. Journey was always called "commercial" or "corporate rock". For some reason, they always had a hard time with the press.

This newspaper clipping of the review starts out very complimentary but has a bit of criticism...

Ross Valory's "The VU: Pheonix Rising" original album cover

At a time when iconic AOR band "Journey" was inactive, members were split amongst multiple projects. One of these projects was "The VU"; formed in 1984 and led by bassist Ross Valory, "The Vu" featured lead singer Kevin Chalfant, guitarist Steff Burns, drummer Prairie Prince and keyboardist Tim Gorman.

The subsequent album "Phoenix Rising", recorded in 1985 was shelved partly due to the reformation of "Journey" for a new album and tour in 1986. From the rhythm guitars, to the keyboard melodies, to the song structures to Kevin's vocals, "The VU" does justice to Journey's legacy.

Here's the original cover to the album originally released overseas in 1986...

Journey Budweiser Ad from 1980

Journey did Budweiser commercials and ads up until 1980.

Here's a great poster of the Journey enjoying a Bud while watching Journey perform live!

This ad was taken from Billboard Magazine's July 12, 1980 special edition for Journey's Ten Year Anniversary.

"Wheel In The Sky" promo single on WHEEL IN THE SKY

This is my only copy of the "Wheel In The Sky" single.

I entered the World of "Journey" in 1980 so I missed the 1978 release of the single.

By 1981 I owned every Journey album and bought every single as it was released but I never did pick up the older singles until much later.

This is the 7 inch stereo vinyl white label promo single and it came in the normal "Columbia" paper sleeve...

Evolution "Journey" Logo Bumper Sticker from 1979

This original bumper sticker is three inches high and eleven inches wide.

Stanley Mouse and Anton Kelley created this Journey logo for the album "Evolution" which was released on April 5th, 1979.

This is my favorite "Journey" logo.

The albums "Infinity", "Evolution", "In The Beginning", "Departure", "Frontiers", and "Greatest Hits" each feature the name "Journey" in some kind of design that is beyond just simply using a font.

A seed is planted so the tree shall grow...
