First Journey Force Newsletter of the Last Ten to 1994

The Journey Force Newsletter, January 1989

The Journey Force Newsletter from January 1989 is the first of the last Ten Newsletters from "The Journey Force". The Journey Force was soon turned into the "Fan Asylum" a few years after the last edition was published in 1994.

This week we start with "The Steve Perry Interview - Who Sings For Me?" interview! All three pages are all about Steve Perry!

Here's Volume 4, Number 1...

  1. Thank you so much for sharing you collection.

I think this particular JF newsletter - Vol4 Number 1 - is dated incorrectly. You have it dated January 1989.

In the newsletter, Steve talks about going to Miami for the Super Bowl to see the 49ers play. I realize that typically the interviews took place at least a month or more before they were published, which means this interview had to have taken place in December 1988 or sooner for it to have been published and mailed by or before January. If that were the case, it would mean Steve went to Miami in January 1988. However, the Super Bowl was played in San Diego in 1988 and the 49ers didn't play.

The 49ers played in the Super Bowl on January 22, 1989 in Miami defeating the Bengals 20 to 16. Therefore, this interview probably took place in 1989, but was published in January 1990.

Unless…January is the incorrect month, then it is possible for the interview to have taken place and published later in 1989, but not in January.

Either way, the date or the month, one or both are incorrect.

  2. I really believe this newsletter was issued in maybe March or April of 1989.

More clues....The recent marriage of Jonathan and Liz is noted as February 17. If they were married in February 1989, then this would not have been sent out prior to the wedding.

Also, it is noted that the upcoming album from Bad English (their first) was tentatively due out on June 5. It was actually released on June 26, 1989.

Therefore, the date of this newsletter should be March or April 1989; I'm leaning toward April since that was a pretty common month for a JF newsletter release.
