Take a wild ride through the 1980's as I discuss my Journey Tour Jacket 1980. I bought this in the early to mid 1980's from a guy and it's been my favorite jacket ever since. I can't wear it anymore but it's in perfect condition. I'll show it off in the video below.

The Jim Ladd Innerview of Journey 1980 is an interview with Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry.
I will be posting the clean vinyl edition of the entire rare interview. Side one of the album will be posted before the end of May and side two will follow up a couple months later. I will then start posting the 1879, 1979, 1981, and 1983 Jim Ladd Innerviews among others.

Happy Birthday Departure
Departure turns 42 years old today, March 23.
Departure was released on March 23, 1980 by Columbia Records. The album made it to #8 on the Billboard charts.
There seems to be some confusion over the release date. The internet is showing February 29th as the release date but the most reliable sources, "Ultimate Classic Rock" and "Disccogs" has it as March 23. Wikipedia is wrong.

Journey's Concert Ticket Evolution Through Time part 3, The Captured Departure
Journey's Departure Tour of 1980 was Journey's biggest tour to date. This year the band played to a much bigger audience than ever before. The band now would play bigger venues and the shows would become less intimate.
Journey had also become international stars, especially in Japan. While on tour in Japan, the "Dream, After Dream" soundtrack album was recorded for the Japanese movie of the same name, or "Yume, Yume No Ato" in Japanese.
This would be the last concert tour to feature those great Steve Perry / Gregg Rolie duets. Gregg Rolie's voice has been sorely missed since this era of the band. From now on Steve Perry would command the sole Lead Vocalist position until he himself leaves the band.
This is the tour that was recorded for the "Captured" album. Journey recorded about 4 dates on the Departure Tour to use for "Captured". We are very lucky that this tour was recorded for a live album because after the tour Gregg Rolie makes his departure from the band. This album becomes the "Greatest Hits" of the Gregg Rolie era of Journey.
Ticket prices were between $8.00 - $9.50 which is up only one dollar since the "Evolution" Tour of 1979. Day on The Green this year was $13.50. Because Ticket Agency's or "scalping agency's" were able to buy large amounts of tickets, they could resale them for enormous profit. Almost no-one paid the price printed on the ticket anymore. An $8.00 ticket went for more like $20.00 or more.

Journey Through Time - 30th Anniversary Sticker and Tour
The Journey Through Time 30th Anniversary Tour A.K.A. The Generations Tour 2005.
Steve Augeri was the Lead singer at the time and they were no longer with Columbia Records when this album and Tour began in 2005. This also marked the beginning of the end for Steve Augeri as his voice was starting to give.
This Sticker commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Journey incorporates all of the Steve Perry Era album cover art including, Infinity, Evolution, Departure, Escape, Frontiers and Raised On Radio, into one great piece of art!

Journey 1983 Frontiers Tour Book - Making and Breaking Records
The last three pages of the Frontiers Tour Book starts with a double page thanking the road crew on one side and Journey's biggest albums artwork on the other.
The Frontiers Tour was a huge success. Until this point Journey had been working hard touring and making albums that they decided to take a break after the tour.
This is the first time that the band had ever stopped after a tour, they usually would go right back into Studio to record another album.
We take a moment to reflect on where we've been and where we came from. What started as a little jazz fusion band in 1973 had become the biggest Rock and Roll Band in America!
...and then there was the back cover;

Journey's Escape Tour 1981-1982 Tour Book Program part 11; The End
This week is the last pages and back cover of Journey's Escape Tour Program.
In 1982 this tour was the biggest tour Journey ever had. Neal Schon bought a new Ferrari.
Journey hit the mainstream. The awkwardness that always happens when Rock & Roll meets mainstream America. Journey was now on National TV talk shows, local entertainment shows, they were everywhere!
Once the tour was over, the presuure was on for another album. The pressure was intense I'm sure, how do you top "Escape"? Rarely does a rock & roll band such as Journey reach number 1 on the mainstream album charts.
The tour book shows us all six platinum albums up to 1981!
We end with the back cover which uses artwork created in the late 1970's and was used primarily for the "In The Beginning" compilation.

Journey's Escape Tour 1981-1982 Tour Book Program part 2
This week we begin with a repeat the last page from last week because it's a great lead into the History of Journey and our farewell to Gregg Rolie, Journey Keyboardist and Key Vocalist from 1973 to 1980.
Gregg Alan Rolie was born on June 17, 1947 in Seattle Washington. Gregg first gained success as the keyboardist for the band "Santana". In 1973 Gregg and Neal Schon started a new group that would end up becoming "Journey".
Gregg has been playing on the road for many years in both bands and by the end of Journey's 1980 Departure Tour he left the band. He picked his own replacement, Jonathan Cain and then went on to continue writing and playing the kind of music he wanted to play.
Journey went on to bigger and bigger success and this was just the beginning...

The Departure era for Journey is when they started filling up large stadiums. It was starting to get big.
Ross Valory's energenic bass playing is the heartbeat of "Journey". To translate that energy into Journey's high powered music, Ross relies exclusively on Peavey bass guitars, amps, and speakers.
Ross Valory has been a part of Journey since 1973, give or take 1986-1995.

The Departure Tour spawned two other Journey albums;
The "Dream, After Dream" soundtrack album for Japan
"Captured" The Departure Tour recorded live.
The band took a noticeable different direction in 1981 with the release of "Escape"
The Departure World Tour was Journey's biggest tour to date and the audience just kept getting bigger.
It surely was A Journey Beyond Evolution and through Infinity...

The next three pages are black and white pictures of the band members including Gregg Rolie. This was Gregg's last tour with Journey.
