Steve Perry For The Love Of Strange Medicine World Tour Book 1994-1995

Journey suddenly stopped in 1987 while on the "Raised On Radio" Tour. Then Journey and Steve Perry vanished.

All the band members of Journey would be heard from during the late 1980's and early 1990's because they kept bouncing around in different bands and configurations. All except Steve Perry, who was hardly heard from at all.

Things started happening near the mid 1990's though. Steve Perry fired Journey's long time manager, Herbie Herbert in 1993 which led to the end of "The Journey Force" which was the name of Journey's fan club. 1994 saw the last edition to "The Journey Force Newsletter" which was really the only place to hear any news about Journey at all.

It was seven longs years that we went without hearing Journey songs live and finally Steve Perry released a new album called "For The Love Of Strange Medicine" and finally went on tour to promote it. The musicianship might not have been what we were used to, but the voice was undeniably Journey.

Journey's Concert Ticket Evolution Through Time part 6, Insanity

The momentum that had been building for Journey first got derailed with a Journey release that was't Journey, at least not all the way. Steve Perry released a solo album called "Street Talk" which sold as well as any Journey album so he was all of a sudden a star. This meant that he was in control of Journey. This is when all logic was thrown out so that Steve Perry could turn Journey into his next solo project.

The album and Tour is called "Raised On Radio," the only other Journey album title since "Look Into The Future" to be more than one word. Founding member, Ross Valory, and Steve Smith were fired by Steve Perry and replaced with studio musicians. When it came time to tour, Randy Jackson and Mike Baird were brought in for Bass and drums. This band no longer sounded like Journey and they sure didn't like Journey either.

After the many delays and only having one song on that album that actually sounds like a Journey song, "Be Good Yourself", the band set off on Tour. The shows were big, the video projection was better than ever, but some the audience had lost interest in Journey by now. The shows were hardly Journey shows, with all the added songs from solo projects and adding an Elvis Presley tune it didn't sound much like Journey. The 1986 band didn't resemble the 1970's version of the band at all.

When the Tour was over Steve Perry decided to stop and he went into seclusion and wouldn't be seen with Journey until 1991. Finally in 1993 Steve Perry was no longer a member of the band and Herbie Herbert would no longer be their manager.

1994 marks the year of the return of Steve Perry. Steve released his second album titled "For The Love Of Strange Medicine". The album wasn't as successful as 1984's "Street Talk" but Steve did Tour this time around. Steve Perry toured through 1994 and 1995 while Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain worked on other projects including "Bad English" and "The Storm".

This is the Christmas Card that The Steve Perry Information Network sent out for Christmas 1984;

Apparently He's again in the Studio working on an album for a 2016 release.

What the World really wants for Christmas is a reunion with his old band, Journey.

The Journey Force Newsletter from May 1985

The May 1, 1985 edition of the Journey Force Newsletter begins with the 8th Annual Bay Area Music Awards (BAMMIES) with Steve Perry winning 2 awards!

The 3rd and last page this week gets down to business with more Steve Perry news and the "We Are The World" album in the "USA for Africa Project".

Steve Smith news is also included while his jazz group goes on hiatus while he works on the upcoming Journey album. There's also a small hint towards Steve perry, Neal Schon, and Jonathan Cain as the main members of the band. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out over the next few months until the album really does arrive in 1986.

We conclude this week explaining special seating offered by the Force at Journey shows, followed by a full explanation of what it is and how it works. It really didn't work unless you were able to camp out in front of the venue and be close enough in line while Ticketron was also selling the same tickets all over town.

Steve Perry For The Love Of Strange Medicine Post Card / Sticker Promo from 1994

This is the Steve Perry "For The Love Of Strange Medicine" Promo Post Card from Fan Asylum.

The Journey Force had dissolved into a company called "Fan Asylum" which sold merchandise for a number of bands.

Steve Perry's 2nd Solo album, "For The Love Of Strange Medicine", released in 1994, came ten years after his first one, "Street Talk" which was released in 1984.

I received this Post Card in the mail promoting the Release date of the album as July 19, 1994.

The card is also a sticker which peels off the Post Card backing...

Journey Force (Fan Club) Newsletter September 1, 1984, part 1 of 2

At this point the Journey Force Newsletter talked about solo projects more than the band itself, because there really was no band at this time.

Solo projects were taking over. Steve Smith was beginning his third album with Vital Information, Steve Perry riding high on the success of hid first solo album, Street Talk, and Neal Schon is busy playing Guitar in England, working with John Entwistle, the bassist from The Who.

Gregg Rolie is mentioned in this edition for his first solo album and for playing in the Rockdogs Softball Game.

This edition also includes more Task Force instructions. The whole Task Force idea never really worked, but here's some great nostalgia while trying to work it out.

Journey's fan club newsletters keep getting bigger.

This edition has pictures of Gregg Rolie and full color pictures of Steve Smith.

Among the exciting news is that Steve Smith and producer Kevin Elson teaming up for Vital Information's 3rd album. Steve Perry's Street talk goes Platinum and Gregg Rolie's debut album has been postponed.
