 Journey's Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon on Innerview

Hosted by Jim Ladd

COMING THURSDAY AUGUST 22, 2024

Thursday, July 11, 2024

 This week's Journey video is delayed;

I am working on the Jim Ladd Innerview of Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon in 1978. This involves a lot of editing and searching for pictures from 1978 which there are very few without the whole band. I'm working hard but not fast enough. This may take another 2 weeks or so I'm hoping to have it done this month, July 2024. Until then;

JOURNEY On!

 Journey and the story of American Rock

David Hamilton Golland releases his new book, "Livin' Just To Find Emotion, Journey and the story of American Rock". It's an awesome 363 page book! It is available now at Amazon.com...

"Golland leaves no stone unturned in this fine-grained chronicle of the rock group Journey.... Golland’s passion and precision make this a pleasure." -Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

[Golland] provides an overdue critical take on the group’s overall sound. He also discusses issues of musical influence versus appropriation. It is rare, and valuable, to find such insight in books like this." -Library Journal, Starred Review

Relive Journey’s greatest songs and moments with this fiftieth anniversary tribute

Since exploding on the scene in the late 1970s, Journey has inspired generations of fans with hit after hit. But hidden under this rock ‘n’ roll glory is a complex story of ambition, larger-than-life personalities, and clashes. David Hamilton Golland unearths the band’s true and complete biography, based on over a decade of interviews and thousands of sources.

When Steve Perry joined jazz-blues progressive rock band Journey in 1977, they saw a rise to the top, and their 1981 album Escape hit #1. But Perry’s quest for control led to Journey’s demise. They lost their record contract and much of their audience. After the unlikely comeback of “Don’t Stop Believin’” in movies, television, and sports stadiums, a new generation discovered Journey.

A professional historian, Golland dispels rehashed myths and also shows how race in popular music contributed to their breakout success. As the economy collapsed and as people abandoned the spirit of Woodstock in the late 70s, Journey used the rhythm of soul and Motown to inspire hope in primarily white teenagers’ lives. Decades later, the band and their signature song remain classics, and now, with singer Arnel Pineda, they are again a fixture in major stadiums worldwide.

Journey on CBS 2 On The Town in 1982

Journey's appearance on the local CBS station's "2 On The Town" included Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain

Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain did an interview segment on a Television News Magazine Program in 1982. Melody Rogers hosted the show and showed off Neal's new car. This was an excellent piece that gives out some unknown information about the plans of the band at the time. Escape was a catastrophic album that was destined for outer space. Neal Shows off his car and talks about his Guitar collection, Jonathan Cain talks about what it's like to be the newest member of the band and what it was like for him moving to San Francisco. This is a lost gem from the local Los Angeles CBS station, KNXT called "2 On The Town" and was hosted by Melody Rogers.

Journey's War On MTV Music Videos

 Journey's War On MTV Music Videos

Journey didn't make any Music Videos for the Raised On Radio album and everybody was on their back. MTV created a "War on video" thing with Journey to try and force them to make some videos for the album.

Here's 2 great interview segments presented by MTV VJ, Mark Goodman. Steve Perry, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain talk about the situation in the video below;

 Journey on "Live At Five" in 1986

I found another great interview from 1986! This one is from Sue Simmons in New York. This is a great interview, where again the band has to defend themselves against the backlash from not making any Music Videos for the album "Raised On Radio". The interview last about 5 minutes. Enjoy!!!

Here's a strange interview with Journey in 1986. Steve Perry, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain were guests on Good Morning America. They talk about their latest album release, "Raised On Radio". They also talk about breaking up and getting back together.

This video is from 1986 and the quality isn't good but it's all we have. It's worth a view.
