Happy Birthday Departure

 Departure turns 42 years old today, March 23.

Departure was released on March 23, 1980 by Columbia Records. The album made it to #8 on the Billboard charts.

There seems to be some confusion over the release date. The internet is showing February 29th as the release date but the most reliable sources, "Ultimate Classic Rock" and "Disccogs" has it as March 23. Wikipedia is wrong.

Journey's War On MTV Music Videos

 Journey's War On MTV Music Videos

Journey didn't make any Music Videos for the Raised On Radio album and everybody was on their back. MTV created a "War on video" thing with Journey to try and force them to make some videos for the album.

Here's 2 great interview segments presented by MTV VJ, Mark Goodman. Steve Perry, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain talk about the situation in the video below;

Journey Force Folding Sunglasses

 The Journey Folding Sunglasses

Journey started selling folding sunglasses in 1984. I got my pair in 1985 through the Journey Force which is the name of the old Journey fan club. I made a video to show off the sunglasses. I also talk about the current tour.

I talk about my tickets to Journey's Freedom tour. I also show off my past Ticket stubs from all the times I've seen Journey. At the end of the video, I show off the Journey Folding Sunglasses that were on sale at the Journey Fan Club between 1984-1995. May the Journey Force be with you.

 Journey on "Live At Five" in 1986

I found another great interview from 1986! This one is from Sue Simmons in New York. This is a great interview, where again the band has to defend themselves against the backlash from not making any Music Videos for the album "Raised On Radio". The interview last about 5 minutes. Enjoy!!!

Neal Schon Announces new Album Cover and Track Listing

In 1985, Journey was recording their new album, "Freedom". The song "Liberty" from the box set, "Time3", is a remnant from that album. The next thing we knew, the album was scrapped and Journey was a three-man band. The album that was released in it's place was called "Raised On Radio".

Now in 2022 "Freedom" will finally be released with a whole new song line-up! Funny enough, Journey seems to be a three-man band again. It will be interesting to find out who the band line-up will include.

01. Together We Run (4:49)

02. Don't Give Up On Us (5:23)

03. Still Believe In Love

04. You Got The Best Of Me (5:33)

05. Live To Love Again (5:30)

06. The Way We Used To Be (3:35)

07. Come Away With Me (4:02)

08. After Glow (5:22)

09. Let It Rain (4:40)

10. Holdin On (3:14)

11. All Day All Night (3:38)

12. Don't Go (4:58)

13. United We Stand (5:05)

14. Life Rolls On (4:57)

15. Beautiful As You Are (7:10)

 Journey on Good Morning America in 1986

Here's a strange interview with Journey in 1986. Steve Perry, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain were guests on Good Morning America. They talk about their latest album release, "Raised On Radio". They also talk about breaking up and getting back together.

This video is from 1986 and the quality isn't good but it's all we have. It's worth a view.

HAPPY 73RD BIRTHDAY

Merry Christmas 2021

 Merry, Merry Christmas 2021

Wheel In The Sky has made it through a rough couple of years and is proud to still age able to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Here is a Sticker that was released in 1980. It's theme is Departure;

Steve Perry with Neal and Jonathan singing a great version of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town";

Jelly Roll Sweetie

 Journey's "Homemade Love" is talked about in this mini-Interview / Music Video. Steve Perry and Gregg Rolie of Journey were guests on Jim Ladd's "Innerview" series in 1980. Steve and Gregg explain the meaning of the lyrics,  "Jelly Roll Sweetie" from the song "Homemade Love".

I decided that a Journey Channel is just going to have to have some Journey music, it doesn't make sense otherwise. This video also includes a Music Video of "Homemade Love" which is an excerpt of Journey live at Nakano Sun-plaza In Tokyo, Japan on 10-13-1980.

Wheel In The Sky goes to Journey's Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

I take a Journey into Hollywood to find the Star. Journey received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and went to see it, to clean it, to be it. You'll see the whole Journey, from the driving to the Star to walking to the Star, to finding the Star, to cleaning the Star, to driving home from the Star.

One of the hottest summer days in 2016. Footage was lost, but I was able to cobble together a video of the trip!

The Final Journey Force Newsletter, January 1994 - Steve Perry Back In The Groove

This is the final edition of the Journey Force Newsletter. This was the last word on Journey. This newsletter made it clear to all the fan club members that all the rumors have been true, Journey was truly over. Starting in 1978, the Journey Fan Club has been answering the fans' questions, sending out newsletters, stickers, photos, and membership cards. This 1994 edition of the Journey Force Newsletter was the saddest newsletter of them all.

Steve Perry was hard at work at the time on his forthcoming album, For The Love Of Strange Medicine. Steve does an interview with Journey Force staff member, Lora.

This edition is here in it's full. There are eight fantastic pages full of information, photos and memories. You'll find a reunion photo of the original members of Journey.

Thank you JOURNEY;
Walter "Herbie" Herbert
Gregg Rolie
Neal Schon
