FAITHFULLY

Released May 14, 2025

Steve Perry, the former lead singer of the 1970-80s band Journey, teamed up with Willie Nelson to remake the 1983 classic hit “Faithfully.” Perry, who usually steers away from the band’s hits from their heyday as a solo artist, recreated the song with Nelson, with proceeds to help and support Farm Aid.

When discussing what it was like to get into the studio with the country icon, Perry told American Songwriter, “No one has a voice or vocal phrasing anything like Willie Nelson. Singing this duet with Willie has been something I’ve always wanted to do. After recording ‘Faithfully’ with Journey, I always felt it would be a great song for Willie, too.”

“What a wonderful experience it was to finally sing with Willie, Perry added.” I’m so proud of what we have accomplished together.”

Farm Aid started in 1985 and continues today with the original co-founders, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp. They continue to fight against big corporation greed and have grown and helped family farmers for 40 years.

Highway run into the midnight sun
Wheels go 'round and 'round, you're on my mind
Restless hearts, sleep alone tonight
Sendin' all my love along the wire

They say that the road ain't no place to start a family
Right down the line, it's been you and me
And lovin' a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be
Oh, girl, oh girl, you stand by me
I'm forever yours
Faithfully

Circus life under the big-top world
We all need the clowns to make us smile
Through space and time, always another show
Wonderin' where I am lost without you

Bein' apart ain't easy on this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy of rediscovering you (rediscovering you)
Oh, girl, you stand by me
And I'm forever yours
I'm forever yours
Faithfully

I'm forever
Faithfully
Ever yours
Faithfully
Faithfully
I'm still yours

I'm forever, ever yours

Highway run into the midnight sun
Sendin' all my love along the wire

Journey at the Los Angeles Forum 1983

Journey played at the Los Angles Forum for 5 days in 1983! It was August 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th!

Sold Out all 5 days!!

I share my T-shirt from the event with you now...

I went to the concert for all five days. I always thought it was 5 nights in a row, but this shows that there was a break on August 8th. This was the last time that I saw Steve Perry in concert. (The next time was in person, but that's for another day). I took 5 different friends to the concert. This concert was a huge deal in 1983. I did have some trouble finding people to go with me as my friends were all into new wave, certainly not Journey. Then everyone wanted to go once they played the first night. I was turning people away by the last night.

Here's a copy of my tickets for the first night. $15.00 was a lot of money in 1983, especially for a 20 year old.

Happy Birthday Departure

Departure turns 42 years old today, March 23.

Departure was released on March 23, 1980 by Columbia Records. The album made it to #8 on the Billboard charts.

There seems to be some confusion over the release date. The internet is showing February 29th as the release date but the most reliable sources, "Ultimate Classic Rock" and "Disccogs" has it as March 23. Wikipedia is wrong.

Journey's War On MTV Music Videos

Journey's War On MTV Music Videos

Journey didn't make any Music Videos for the Raised On Radio album and everybody was on their back. MTV created a "War on video" thing with Journey to try and force them to make some videos for the album.

Here's 2 great interview segments presented by MTV VJ, Mark Goodman. Steve Perry, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain talk about the situation in the video below;
